The slogan for the Mankato/North Mankato area is: “A little Twin Cities. A lot Minnesota”. And it is true, too; we have a miniature Twin Cities going on here along the Minnesota River.
We need to remember that the two cities operate in many ways as one. One great little city surrounded by a beautiful, productive rural countryside. As a citizen of the area, you get to enjoy the best of both worlds.
Mankato/North Mankato offers all the amenities associated with its distinction as a growing regional center. Retailing, education, medical care, agriculture, and light industry are thriving here. We have a top-notch regional airport and a state-of-the-art Civic Center. At the same time, citizens enjoy the peace of mind, quality of life and close-knit community often associated with small towns.
Mankato/North Mankato is the 14th most livable metropolitan city in the nation according to The New Rating Guide to Life in America’s Small Cities. There are over 30 city parks, and the cities are committed to providing the best in public safety programs. Recreational opportunities abound due to the areas lakes, rivers, prairies and forests. County and State Parks offer breathtaking landscapes and places to explore.
The Midwest Wireless Civic Center has hosted nationally touring ice shows, music concerts, theatre productions, and several local art and entertainment venues. Minnesota State University, Mankato has a Division 1 Hockey program that always draws a crowd when they hit the ice. Baseball, softball, soccer, bowling, pool and darts; almost any sport or interest is represented during every season of the year.
The District 77 School System offer lifelong learning opportunities for children and adults with classes ranging from pre-kindergarten through post graduate studies. Minnesota State University, Bethany Lutheran College, and South Central Technical offer degrees in a wide range of interests.
Health care in the area is excellent and continues to grow. Immanual St. Joseph Hospital recently announced a $35 million dollar expansion of their facility. The Mankato Clinic has recently expanded facilities locally and in surrounding communities such as St. Peter where the Mankato Clinic Daniels Health Center was recently opened.
Retail and industrial growth also continue. WalMart recently completed the purchase of land on which to build a regional warehouse facility.
The City that had it’s origins as a sleepy riverboat landing has expanded into a new role as a regional center for Southern Minnesota. Most residents agree the quality of life in Mankato/North Mankato is excellent and opportunities abound for continuing growth in a beautiful area of the State.
